I loved reading Pop Candy after Lost would air a new episode. I mean, I always checked out Pop Candy daily, but the coverage of the show, and like you said, the fans, was great. I wish I'd interacted more, but I love reading everyone's thoughts. Man, I miss that show.
I didnt watch it when it originally aired, and decided to start it one week before the finale aired. I only got three episodes in, and then people were so angry about the ending, that I abandoned it. Is it worth trying (now), knowing that the ending is going to be lame?
My wife and I watched it in "real time" and then life and stuff caught up with us and we didn't see the last season. I also heard negative feedback about the ending and that gave me even less desire to finish this thing I really enjoyed. A few years ago I decided to do a re-watch and finish it. The Lost ending, to me, is still one of my all time favorites of any show. It was always going to be hard to tie all that up in a bow and make everyone happy but I think they did a great job. Last year we decided to introduce it to our teenage boys. We knocked out an episode or two a night. They loved the show, and the ending, as much as I did. So...I say watch it! Enjoy all the twists and turns and characters that come and go (and come and go).
It's absolutely worth it. Watching it on demand, without commercials and without forced breaks like we had is a whole different experience. My wife and I rewatched Lost with our teenagers last year and they were thoroughly invested, though a binge like that makes the filler all the more noticeable - but every show had filler back then. How else to fill out 22-26 episodes a season? I was dreading the finale but in watching it, it wasn't as bad as I'd remembered. There are elements of the finale and final season in general that are a little silly because the show went even higher concept in that last season than previous ones, and that raises expectations to a point where a network show just can't deliver. That is no reason to avoid the show - just go into it knowing that the finale has some stuff that feels a little rushed and not fully thought out. But there are also some genuinely beautiful moments in the finale too. Ignore people's thoughts on the finale and form your own. This is definitely one of the greatest TV shows of all time and if you're curious you should explore it.

I miss Lost, too -- but I may miss the post-show community even more ...

It's about the journey -- and it's a good one!
