Hey! I’m sending this a bit early for maximum pleasure — hope you’re feeling better than this today:
Ha! Thanks to Dean Haspiel for this lifelike portrait inspired by his wild new comic, COVID COP. Grab a copy by supporting his Kickstarter campaign, which ends in 17 HOURS! Stop wringing your hands and go wring a couple bucks outta your wallet!
Last year Dean and I created LOOK!, a Brooklyn-themed activity book for kids. The book has been used in classrooms, and last week we got to meet some of the amazing kids who have used it to spark their curiosity and creativity.
Here we all are at Mother, the company that sponsored the educational initiative and event:
The afternoon included incredible presentations by kids who wrote stories, created characters, made maps and worked on other projects inspired by our book. Dean was particularly excited about one story called “Zombie Apocalypse,” which featured a superhero (“Cleanman”) that tidies up the city:
In other news, I’m reading many books right now, including stories by Swiss writer Robert Walser. After he died — maybe you’ve seen the famous photo of his body in the snow — tiny slips of paper with indecipherable symbols were found in the sanatorium where he lived. Decades later, they were transcribed and revealed to be short stories.
You can see the original papers and read the translations in the book Microscripts:
I’m still writing daily diary comics. Here are a couple that will be part of my next batch on Patreon:
And finally, here’s an image of myself at work, chapters of my book-in-progress pinned to the wall.
Thanks for your time — now carry on! Do something secretive today and tell me all about it tomorrow.
drink your juice,
whit
