Welcome to the compliment tunnel.
Is that a new scent? Are those freshly pressed slacks? Whatever you're doing today, it's working.
First: THANK YOU to everyone who has this week!! If you want one, just Venmo $10 to me (@whitneymatheson) with your mailing address and name of the person who's getting the comic.
And briefly: I've seen Part 1 of GET BACK. My 9-year-old is into it, though she's not into "Paul's dad-beard." ... It's about time Pee-wee Herman had a radio show. Also, R.I.P. Lou Cutell, aka Amazing Larry. ... I watched the South Korean zombie flick TRAIN TO BUSAN on Amazon Prime and cried my eyes out. ... R.I.P. Eddie Mekka, aka The Big Ragoo. And congrats to BIG BUSINESS, whose homemade version of MISERY premiered this week as part of SWEDE FEST 21!
According to Spotify, my #1 song of 2021 was ... a Guided by Voices track from 1995? Yeah, that sounds about right. See/hear the full playlist of my top songs if you wanna. Some are old, some are new--and I swear I can't remember listening to "Cool for Cats" ONCE this year, but whatever.
This week I went to a rad poetry event at Tibet House featuring icons like Ronee Blakley of NASHVILLE/Rolling Thunder Revue fame (left photo) and renegade poet/activist/artist Anne Waldman. If you're in NYC, there's another one Dec. 8; it felt great to share space with bodies and consonants again!
I just finished Lisa Carver's I LOVE ART, and I thought this was the most perfect final line of a book I've read in a long time. Grab I LOVE ART if you're into short fiery meditations on everything from Reader's Digest to Tyler Perry movies. It's fantastic.
Before I go, I just want to thank Erik C., my latest supporter on Patreon! Go there if you wanna throw me a few bucks, read diary comics, etc. Head to Epic to read my nonfiction kids' books.
Holler at whitmath@gmail.com, and I'll psychically wrap all of your presents.
