This week I was thrilled to hear that PANDEMIX has been nominated for a Ringo Award! I co-edited this digital comics anthology, which you can purchase for $5 at heroinitiative.org.
Comics creators and professionals can vote for PANDEMIX through Sept. 22 at RingoAwards.com. Thanks for supporting this charity project that features 19 talented artists!
Here I am in Times Square in the middle of a dang HURRICANE, which didn't stop me from seeing the sci-fi play ALMA BAYA and having a hot donut at the giant Krispy Kreme flagship store on 48th Street. Be safe and try to have a bitchin' summer before it's over!
We're in rehearsals for the one-act play I wrote, DENNY BARRACUDA, which will be performed Sept. 8 and 23 at The Brick theater in Brooklyn. Tickets are on sale now at tinyurl.com/dbarracuda.
Hot Burrito #1 (aka some quick recs): I took my daughter to Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience last weekend. While I was hoping the "experience" would last a little longer, we did come away with an unexpected appreciation for the music of Edith Piaf. ... I watched the 1972 film FAT CITY on the Criterion Channel and, wowie zowie, what a beautiful poem of a movie that is and isn't about boxing. ... I was entertained by the kids' film FLORA AND ULYSSES, which has Alyson Hannigan, Ben Schwartz, a smidge of Janeane Garofalo, superheroes AND a typing squirrel! See it on Disney+. ... And R.I.P. to Inge Ginsberg, who lived an astounding, vibrant life and whose death will just shatter your heart.
R.I.P. to Rolling Stone class act Charlie Watts. Did you know he drew comics? You can find this one on the back cover of the band's 1967 album BETWEEN THE BUTTONS.
Have an inspiring weekend! Look for lots of new diary comics TODAY at patreon.com/whitneymatheson. Say hi at whitmath@gmail.com. Put "VERSE" as the subject, and I'll reply with my favorite poem.
Kiss me on the supertrain,
Janet Livermore
