Pizza girls and Johnny Fever 🍕
I'm getting outta town!
In a few hours, I'll head to Virginia to see my parents--something I haven't done since 2019. And after that, I'll do something I've NEVER dene, which is to spend a couple weeks on a self-imposed writing retreat/solo vacation!
Wish me luck, and promise not to judge me if the only thing I produce during this time is a sunburn.
Real quick:
- Have you tried my Summer Pop-Culture Crossword? Some of you said 2 Down is impossible, so here's another hint: "I used to go to this California event every July."
- Congrats to Jeff L. on winning a signed copy of Howard Paar's TOP RANKIN'! Thanks to everyone who entered, and I encourage you to support Howard by buying a book, spreading the word, and/or cranking up his Spotify soundtrack.
This week I had a blast with comedians Greg Proops and Paul Morrissey on FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH, a pop-culture game show hosted/created by Murray Valeriano (seen above). Watch the whole thing on YouTube; I swear I got the hardest dang questions!
WHAT I'M READING: I wanted to throw in a quick rec for PIZZA GIRL, the new debut novel by Jean Kyoung Frazier. I'm only halfway through, but I'm digging this story about a pregnant 18-year-old pizza delivery girl who becomes obsessed with a middle-aged suburban mom. Read/hear an excerpt. (The rad cover was made by Tallboy/Night Watch Studios.)
I just posted new diary comics at patreon.com/whitneymatheson. There you'll find many more comics and exclusive audio like this recent chat with my studio mate Dean Haspiel.
