✏ Get it done! (Or don't.)
What have I done this week?
NOTHING!
So that's not entirely true: I worked. I (sorta) helped my kid with math. I played "Happy Birthday" on the accordion for my mom. I thought a lot about the guy who sanitized the inauguration podium.
But when it comes to my my tower of movies/TV/books/etc., it stands taller than ever. So this week I'm sharing all the stuff I DIDN'T have time for. Maybe you have a similar list.
(And yes, I know I look very sad and tired in this photo. I hear ennui is very in this season!)
Please enjoy a stack of...
BOOKS I HAVEN'T READ!
On the left is a pile of books I'll get to someday. On the right is the one I just started--LIFE WITH PICASSO is Francoise Gilot's mesmerizing memoir, first published in 1964. Gilot is still with us and will turn 100 this year!
This list could go on for eight pages.
One thing I *did* accomplish this week was to buy bath crayons, so now I have no excuse for forgetting all the brilliant ideas I come up with in the shower. (I discussed this in a recent Nightwork video.) My daughter drew the image you see here. It's very on-brand for her.
I added a few tracks to my BEST OF 2021 playlist, including a cover sung by Courtney Barnett, a tune from Brooklyn's No Swoon and a lovely ditty from Waylon Payne that actually came out in 2020, but let's keep it alive a bit longer.
Also: Hear my playlist of 81 good songs from 1981.
NEW diary comics & videos!
I'm still posting daily diary comics at patreon.com/whitneymatheson, if you wanna peek inside my pandemic life. And in a recent Nightwork video, Dean asks me to describe my "personal Xanadu."
Didn't do it today?
There's always tomorrow (probably).
Tell me about all the stuff you didn't do this week at whitmath@gmail.com. Or just belt out your favorite country tune while trimming your toenails. Both will give you a burst of joy and accomplishment.
