You must chill.
When people ask how I've been doing in this pandemic, I usually *say* I'm fine, but on the inside I'm screaming, "NOT GREAT, BOB!"
In the last week I've spent a little time at the beach, and it has made a wad of difference in my mental health. Never underestimate the power of salty air and sand in your creases.
A few recs:
1. I've been watching Season 2 of THE BOYS on Amazon Prime and man, it's bloody--someone loses a limb every five minutes--but it's also super-entertaining.
2. Related: Longtime reader Sean M. talked to Antony Starr (aka Homelander from THE BOYS) on his podcast, THE WAKEUP. I gotta see BANSHEE!
3. I saw the first two episodes of HBO's LOVECRAFT COUNTRY. It's lovely and weird and pretty dense, so don't try to bake a soufflé or anything while you watch.
4. The horror-comedy FREAKY swirls FREAKY FRIDAY with FRIDAY THE 13TH and might make me adore Vince Vaughn again. It releases in November.
5. My friend/reality TV expert Andy Denhart told me a British competition show called THE GREAT POTTERY THROW DOWN is coming to HBO Max this month, which sounds right up my alley.
6. My friend Howard recommends UNSTOPPABLE, a Netflix show "about three girls taking a weekend trip from Mexico City to Oaxaca. "It's shot beautifully and the music is fab," he says.
7. I just finished Hollywood crime thriller THE FADE OUT by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, and next I wanna chew on their latest graphic novel, CRUEL SUMMER.
8. And finally, shout-out to the SOUND BY NATURE podcast, in which a man, his dog and a microphone head into the wilderness to record blissful sounds. This week I've been falling asleep to "Wind in the Pines."

A VOYAGE TO PANJIKANT
For nearly 10 years cartoonist Marguerite Dabaie has been working on an epic graphic novel called A VOYAGE TO PANJIKANT. This week she posted the first 10 pages on her Patreon, with 10 more pages going up next month.
"A VOYAGE TO PANJIKANT is a historical-fictional YA comic about 7th-century Central Asia and follows a 16-year-old girl and her family as they travel the Silk Roads," Dabaie says. The art is fantastic, and you can see it for as little as a buck a month.
Artists need our support more than ever right now. Join Marguerite's Patreon at patreon.com/mdabaie and tell her I sent you!

I just added new songs from Gorillaz (featuring Robert Smith!), Smashing Pumpkins, AaRON, and Aquiles Navarro and Tcheser Holmes to my Spotify playlist of new music. I hope they put a sparkle in your peepers.
