Your bug spray is an aphrodisiac. š
Is your body movin'?
This week I ventured to the East Village to indulge in that classic trifecta of hair care, street-art photography and a heavily sanitized visit to the optometrist. Tons of public art has emerged in the wake of the pandemic; here are a few images I snapped.
Quick & notable:
Thanks to Sammy YounanĀ for having me on his podcastĀ ... Shout-out to Al Di La for their sexydelicious egg sandwich ... Nothing but love for this rad painting my friend Peter RostovskyĀ just finished ... Joah Love makes soft masks my daughter will (hopefully)Ā be able to endureĀ all day at school ... And dig these versions of Dolly Parton and Edward Scissorhands by Tennessee-based artist Bess Turner.
I love this book:
BOWIE: STARDUST, RAYGUNS & MOONAGE DAYDREAMS
This graphic memoir from Michael Allred and Steve HortonĀ has sprinkled extraterrestrial glitter on my soul--and geez, if there were ever a time I needed that, it's now.Ā
The book mostly focuses on Bowie's Ziggy Stardust period and manages to toss in a few tidbits that were new to me (like the fact that Barbra Streisand once covered "Life on Mars.") But the reason to own BOWIE is for Allred's knockout art. KAPOW! Preview a few pages on The Hollywood Reporter, which also has a Q&A with Allred and Horton.
Follow my Spotify playlist calledĀ "hi, i'm new here"Ā for new music. I just added these:Ā
1. "No Flag," Elvis Costello - He's back, and he ain't happy. Who is? (thx, Herman)
2. "My Own Soul's Warning," The Killers - An upbeat track from the band's new record, out now.
3. "Obvious Guy," Alfie Templeman - This teen musician will rock those hips. (thx x2, Herman)
4. "Wringer," Lydia Loveless - I'm a longtime fan of Lydia's electric honky-tonk. Her new record arrives in September.
5. "A Twist of the Stomach," Drugs - This band just released an even trippier video for this beautifully loopy song.Ā
6. "Personality," PYNKIE - I never turn my back on shiny indie.Ā
Have you seen theseĀ trailers?

Cassette tapeĀ art!?!
Erika Iris makes the coolest portraits ... all out of cassette tapes! Our pal Pete K. recently commissioned her to do an Elvis Costello portrait, and the result is fantastic. Browse her work and order your own at iri5.com.
