Fight the urge to be boring!
Despite my best intentions, I've had a pretty nondescript, GROUNDHOG DAY kinda week. I've worked and worried, then worried and worked some more.
One day I was trying to forget those w's and noticed my daughter was immersed in a virtual tour of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She showed me more cool features via Google's Arts & Culture site--and then she showed me a poop emoji, because she's 7.

I love this podcast:
YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS
It's not an exaggeration to say the latest season of Karina Longworth's YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS is one of the best podcasts I've ever heard. In 10 episodes, she tells the story of writer and producer Polly Platt, a hugely influential--and overlooked-- voice in American cinema.
Each episode made me nod my head, shed some tears and add several films to my must-watch list. Polly's story is deeply moving, and Karina tells it so beautifully it'll stick with me for a long time.
More recommendations:
From me: The new graphic novel JACK KIRBY: THE EPIC LIFE OF THE KING OF COMICS by Tom Scioli ... "73 Questions with John Early" ... The unintentionally hilarious trailer for BECKY ... Ed Brubaker's email newsletter ... And this ambient song from Lori S. Sarid's experimental album MUSIC FOR TOMATO PLANTS (which does indeed pay tribute to a tomato plant).
From you: This new Psychedelic Furs song (via Herman) ... Emma Chamberlain's YouTube channel (via Randy) This free documentary about artist Jim Woodring (via Zack) ... This 360-degree view of Ferris Bueller's room (via Mike) ... These creepy KFC Crocs (via Chris).

BETWEEN THE LINES
Starring: Jeff Goldblum, John Heard, Lindsay Crouse, Bruno Kirby, Jill Eikenberry
Why I dig it: I came across this gem the other night and can't believe I hadn't seen it. Directed by Joan Micklin Silver, the story follows a group of young journalists at an alternative newspaper. Heard and Crouse nab the most screen time, but Goldblum steals the show as an eccentric music writer. The film also features a subplot about Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and Marilu Henner as a stripper. What's not to love? Here's a trailer.
Where to find it: Criterion Channel (or Amazon for $1.99)
Before I go, a few words about Regis Philbin: I wrote about him a few times over the years, and he was always incredibly kind. (Somewhere, I have a photo of us, a couple handwritten notes and even a signed CD.) I love meeting people who are doing EXACTLY what they're meant to be doing. Regis was meant for TV, and his cheer and vivaciousness seeped through the screen. May we all bring as much joy to others as he did.
