Today won't be the same as yesterday!
This week I've been healthy and super-busy, and it's been fantastic. Thanks to everyone who has supported the new benefit comics anthology I co-edited, PANDEMIX. (More details below if you missed my Tuesday email.)
Elsewhere, this week I also recommend the following: Chris Frantz's juicy new memoir, SEARCH PARTY on HBO Max, this excellent ALMOST FAMOUS podcast, Netflix's silly/family-friendly THE FLOOR IS LAVA, Erykah Badu's elaborate quarantine shows, Tig Notaro's new podcast, THE DAYTRIPPERS on Criterion, Marc Maron in conversation with Tom Scharpling, the latest BILL AND TED trailer, a new Throwing Muses song, this virtual tour of a Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibit and this goofy new video from Lydia Loveless.
Introducing ... PANDEMIX.
This week marked the release of a project I've been working on for awhile: a benefit comics anthology called PANDEMIX: QUARANTINE COMICS IN THE AGE OF 'RONA. Now available for $5 at patreon.com/pandemix, the compilation features new work from 19 cartoonists. Each comic addresses an aspect of the pandemic, from the deeply personal to the somewhat silly.
Co-edited with Dean Haspiel, PANDEMIX features work from so many artists I respect and adore: Dean, Josh Neufeld, Ellen Lindner, Marguerite Dabaie, Joan Reilly, on and on. I'm honored to be part of it.
This week I've done a few interviews, including a fun one over at Jason Campbell's One Word Questions and another on John Siuntres' WORD BALLOON podcast (photo below). More coming soon!
R.I.P., Brigid Berlin: Last week we lost renegade artist and ex-Warhol superstar Brigid Berlin. Brigid lived an extraordinary life and, among MANY other things, was known for making prints of her breasts. Here's my personal tribute; see more pics on Instagram.
Some recs from YOU: This MAD LIBS app (thanks, Matt) ... a Facebook set from The Dead Milkmen's Joe Jack Talcum (thanks, Chad) ... a strange E.T. audiobook narrated by Michael Jackson and produced by Quincy Jones (thanks, Zack--I actually owned this as a kid) ... the Netflix show STATELESS with Cate Blanchett (thanks, Robert) ... and this PORTLANDIA sketch about TV theme songs that still makes me laugh (thanks, Mac).
#HeyIMadeThis continues! My latest creative challenges have included inventing words (pictured here), making angry rhymes and drawing self-portraits with your *other* hand (pictured at the top of this newsletter). See a new one each day on Instagram.
Time to pull me off that grill, 'cause I'm done! As always, thanks for reading. You can find me anytime at whitmath@gmail.com and under that tiny hat you're wearing.
