Whit's newsletter: The one where everything RHYMES!
I don't wanna bore you, I don't wanna be deleted—
I don't want these newsletters to feel dull and repeated,
So this week I'm trying to be worthy of your time
By writing this whole damn thing as a clunky rhyme.
Now let's move ahead to a few of my pop-culture recs,
(On Patreon you can see some more personal projects),
I hope you're staying cozy and have had a fruitful week,
Now here's a bunch of stuff I dig with zero harsh critique ...
STUFF I'M INTO:
Even though there are way too few hours in the day
I still find a little time at night (or on the bleak subway)
To happily absorb stuff that won't make my brain decay,
Let me share a handful, then I'll send you on your way:
1. WATCHMEN is so stunning, that ending had me on the floor;
How the f**k can they wrap it up with only two eps more?
2. I finally saw that Dylan doc from Martin C. Scorsese;
The performances are beautiful, fierce and somewhat hazy ...
3. Once again, that Dolly podcast is a tall, cool drink of water;
This week they head down to UT, my beloved alma mater.
4. The other night I found myself craving Warren Beatty
(THE PARALLAX VIEW's on Amazon — it's great but kinda weighty.)
5. On YouTube I rewatched a doc that's heartfelt (and on-brand),
ROCK-AFIRE EXPLOSION profiles the '80s pizza band.
6. And Tame Impala's back with a cool six-minute single;
"Posthumous Forgiveness" will make your ear hairs tingle.
STUFF YOU'RE INTO:
Jeremy P. loved the show JAGGED LITTLE PILL;
Jed says GOOD PLACE's fall finale made his heart be still;
Chris suggests we all check out this TED talk with GWAR;
And Leroy likes JACK RYAN (at least, he digs the show so far).
COMING SOON:
This weekend I'll binge the crap outta MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL;
And the new L Word series looks unmissable as well;
Lilly Wachowski's WORK IN PROGRESS also hits Showtime;
(Uh, is using someone's password a punishable crime?)
Exclusive audio, diary comics ... you really cannot lose!
Support me now on Patreon, and I'll come running to tie your shoes.
(By the way, this week I wrote about how Pop Candy started.
I can't believe it's been 20 years — and five since it departed.)
GOODBYE FOR NOW ...
Don't be sad, I'll be back in seven tiny days!
Until then, I urge you to reach out in many ways:
Via whitmath-at-gmail, on Instagram or Twitter,
I'm always psyched to hear from you, your words are cosmic glitter.
I hope you liked this weird email at least a little bit,
Until we meet again, I'll sign this, fondly ...
